Resumen

DEEP2 is a major new Keck spectroscopic survey of about 35,000 field galaxies and aims to provide a detailed census and map of the cosmos at redshift z ∼ 1. We present an overview of DEEP2 and its predecessor, DEEP1. A few science results and advantages of DEEP2 for multiwavelength surveys are highlighted. We close with lessons that may help ensure that the GTC will be scientifically powerful, though it is a latecomer among 8-10m class telescopes.
