Instructions for Authors

Requirements for article submission

Authors are invited to submit original research to RMxAA. Each proposal is first evaluated by the Editorial Board to determine its suitability to the journal's aims and scope. Suitable manuscripts proceed to peer review before acceptance or rejection.

Prior to submission, the authorship group must obtain the appropriate permissions for any third-party material (e.g., images or datasets). All individuals in the authorship group must have consented to be listed as such. Research involving human or animal subjects must have the appropriate ethical approval, in accordance with local regulations.

The Editorial Board may desk-reject manuscripts that fail to meet minimum quality standards. Ensure that the title is concise, the abstract is self-contained, and the study design and argument are clearly structured before proceeding with the checklist below.

The editorial policy of RMxAA consists of sending all received articles to a strict peer review process by specialists in the field from institutions worldwide.

Those interested in publishing in our journal must submit, through our platform at https://astronomia.unam.mx/journals/rmxaa/about/submissions, the complete version of their article in PDF format, generated using the LaTeX file provided in the journal's macro, along with the LaTeX source file as well as the figures and bibliography files (in BibTeX format). These files must be accompanied by an email serving as a cover letter, sent by the lead or corresponding author.

RMxAA LaTeX Macro

All manuscripts must be prepared in English to achieve global visibility, using the latest version of the RMxAA LaTeX macro, available in RMxAA LaTeX Format. The templates are distributed on the Overleaf digital collaboration platform, widely used in the scientific community, with over 25 million users worldwide.

Requirements for New Manuscripts

  • Include an Abstract and a Summary in Spanish (the latter may be provided by the editorial team, if necessary). Both must be 12 lines or less.

  • Each Table must be numbered and include a title or heading.
  • All figures must be numbered, in PDF, JPEG, PNG, or TIFF format, and include an explanatory caption.
  • Each Table and Figure must be properly referenced in the text of the article.

The author or authorship group must provide the complete BibTeX file <name>.bib and include, in all cases where it exists, a link to the corresponding Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
  • All individuals listed as authors of the article must approve the final publication via an official letter or an email, which must be sent individually.
  • For more information on the RMxAA style, you can consult the example file included in the RMxAA macros (RMxAA LaTeX Templates).

Once an article is properly submitted to the platform, the editorial process begins, and RMxAA will send an email to the corresponding author, notifying them of the receipt and assignment to Editors for peer review.

Communication with the corresponding author

RMxAA will maintain communication with the individual designated as the lead or corresponding author throughout the peer review process until the final communication of acceptance or rejection of the article.

Authorship identification

The platform uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS), which features a user registration system, accessible through the registration page. Here, the details of each co-author are recorded, including their full name, academic affiliation, and a valid email address. Typically, the registration of a new contribution (including the entry of co-authors' information) is carried out by the corresponding author. A valid email address is required for this person on the platform to ensure smooth communication with the editorial team.

The platform is officially registered with the academic organization Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID; https://orcid.org/) and allows for the registration of ORCID identifiers for the authors and co-authors of articles who possess one. The ORCID identifier is currently used by most high-impact journals and is considered an official record of affiliations and academic trajectories.

Finally, when an article is accepted, letters of consent are requested from each co-author, and these letters must be sent to RMxAA from a valid email address.
