Refereeing process

Peer review policy

RMxAA follows an external peer review process under the single-blind modality, where the reviewers (referees) know the identity of the members of the authorship group of a manuscript, but the authorship group does not know who evaluated their work.

When a new article is submitted for review at RMxAA, the Editorial Office requests a list of possible reviewers from the member of the Scientific Editorial Committee who is an expert in the subject area of the article.

The people included in that list are invited, in order of priority, by sending the title, authorship group, and abstract of the article to carry out the review. When any of them accepts the invitation, the article is sent to them immediately.

The reviewer has a period of four weeks (with brief extensions in duly justified cases) to evaluate the article and send their report to the editorial team, in which they can recommend the acceptance of the contribution with minor or major changes, or its rejection.

The review report is sent to the authors, who have a period of six months (which can be briefly extended in duly justified cases) to modify their work.

In some cases, an article may require more than one round of review.

If the authorship group takes more than six months to respond to a review report, or the article has been under review for more than a year and an extension is not justified, the article is withdrawn. In that case, the authorship group is advised to recheck the originality and relevance of the results before considering a new submission. If the work is submitted again, the review process starts from the beginning, as if it were a new article.

When an article is accepted, the authorship group is requested to send a final version, as well as the consent letters for publication, which must be sent individually. Only then can the article move on to the copyediting and final production stages.
