Abstract
The helium to heavy element enrichment ratio, AY/ Z, predicted by chemical evolution models of the solar neighborhood, is obtained adopting several initial mass functions and the composition of ejected stellar material suggested by Talbot and Arnett (1974). In all cases the values of AY/AZ predicted are considerably smaller than the observed one. Possible ways to explain this discrepancy are presented.
