Abstract

The coupling between the rotational and translational motion of an Earth's artificial satellite is analysed, considering the influence of the flattening of the Earth and different principal moments of inertia of the satellite, having two of tha very close to each other. The equations of motion are derived by using Hamiltonian formalism, with the rotational motion described by the Andoyer's variables and the translational motion by the Delaunay's variables. These developments consider terms up to the inverse of the cube distance between the center of mass of the satellite and the Earth's center of mass, and neglect those terms where the power of the eccentricity is higher than two. Hori's method is applied for the analysis of the equations of motion and the first order solution is presented.
