Abstract

The existence of vertical abundance gradients from galactic planetary nebulae is examined. A large sample containing over 90 PN of Peimbert types I, II, III and IV is considered, for which reliable abundances and distances are available. It is found that the disk type II PN show no measurable gradients, while PN of types II, III, and IV taken together present vertical gradients of O/H, S/H, Ne/H, and Ar/H compatible with the known variations of heavy element abundances perpendicular to the galactic plane.
