Abstract
A program for finding, classifying, and determining the distances to faint red supergiants in the southern Milky Way is described. The project has more than doubled the number of known M-type supergiants in the Galaxy. The principles of using narrow-band photometry of red supergiants to map the spiral-arm structure of the Galaxy are described and compared to the methods used in previous work.Similar Articles
