XVIII Latin American Regional IAU Meeting 2026 (LARIM 2026)

The first announcement for LARIM 2026 is attached to this email and is available in Spanish, English and Portuguese. We would be grateful if you could help us publicise it.

This announcement provides preliminary information about this exciting event, which is open to professional scientists and students working in astronomy, astrophysics, space sciences, and related fields from around the world.

The meeting will take place in Cancún, Mexico, from 30 November to 4 December 2026. It will be held at the Cancún Centre, a modern convention facility located in the hotel zone of this vibrant city.

The Cool Stars 23 splinter session “From grains to galaxies: Dust from Evolved Stars—Bridging Hydrodynamics, Chemistry, and Observations” (Tokyo; Thursday, 18 June 2026

Dust formation in evolved-star winds is entering a decisive phase: multi-dimensional hydrodynamics, time-dependent chemistry/microphysics, and transformational observations (e.g., ALMA/JWST/VLTI and polarimetry) are now precise enough that the main bottleneck is often how we connect them. Our goal is to bring modelers and observers together to (i) identify a focused set of shared problems and interfaces between hydrodynamical and chemical models, (ii) map model outputs onto the most informative observables, and (iii) converge on a small set of community-prioritized benchmark predictions and near-term next steps.

This session is deliberately built around interactive discussions with active participation by everyone in the room. After invited overviews on the three fields, we will move into short contributed presentations focused on open problems, a fishbowl discussion with rotating participation, and breakout groups that produce concrete outcomes.

To make the format work, we ask participants to read the session format in advance and come prepared to engage—especially by submitting a 3–5 minute contributed talk as a seed for the discussions that centers on a question or uncertainty (rather than a polished results talk), and that ideally combines at least two of the targeted topics.
